Music

Music is a unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. Music forms an important part of an individual’s identity, and positive experiences of music can develop pupils’ confidence as learners and increase their self-esteem. Music brings together intellect and emotion, enabling personal expression, reflection and emotional development.

As part of our Birdham Bridges programme, we take our school choir to the O2 Arena in London to participate in the Young Voices Celebration. Every week, we also provide opportunities for children to sing together during our ‘Worship Wednesday’ assemblies.

As an integral part of culture, both past and present, music helps pupils understand themselves, relate to others and develop their cultural awareness. It forges important links between home, school and the wider world.

Additionally, every term, we hire 30 musical instruments and benefit from the support of a specialist music teacher. This means that we can offer all our KS2 children free instrumental tuition every year.

In previous years, pupils have had the opportunity to learn the cornet, violin and ukulele, developing their musical skills, confidence and enjoyment along the way.
