Birdham CE Primary School

SEMH

Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) is now widely recognised as a priority nationally, especially in the aftermath of the global pandemic a few years ago.  At Birdham we also recognise that there are very few things more important than looking after the mental health of both our children and our staff.  Therefore as a school, we take great efforts to keep this a high profile in school.  The one sheet below shows some of our key thinking in this important area.

Periodically, we provide dedicated support for our children  around the NHS five steps to mental wellbeing.  This national programme focuses on five known ways to imp[rove mental health and wellbeing:

  • Connect with others
  • Be active
  • Take notice
  • Give something
  • Keep learning

In school we do not deliver this programme every year, but whenever we notice a significant increase in the need for support across the school.  If you want to know more about this programme, please contact the school office or the headteacher in confidence.
